That is hilarious! The Palin parody.
But of course I can't help thinking, what if Palin had been a man. He would have gotten away with a lot of the things that female Palin is being mocked for. She's an old-fashion Buy American soccer-mom with limited political experience and a good portion of what she thinks is good morals and Christian values. Had she been a man with these qualities, yes, he wouldn't have passed unnoticed as a potential vice president, but it wouldn't be as "hilarious". Plus, HE wouldn't be likely to be appointed vice president. But SHE was, because she was a woman.
So, what we really should be laughing at when watching those parodies, is not only the brilliant and humorous way they portray Palin, but also our image of the woman and what it stands for.
Or maybe, MAYBE I'm reading too much into it. I should get some sleep, is what I should do.
No you're definitely on to something. Personally I can't help seeing a lot of similarities between Palin and the younger George Bush, and they actually let him lead the country.
(I love it when you should be studying :D)
Yeah, that was actually what I came to think about too and had to write a second post. Bush IS hilarious. But then, he is sort of made into a child and thus it is possible for us to think he is hilarious. A child, someone who is naturally lower down in the social hierarchy. Yes, pretty much like a woman. We don't need to make Palin into a child, it's enough for her to be a woman. But I'm not saying there is only one type of woman. Just like there are different masculinities, there are different femininities, but they cannot be separated, and the feminine seems to be doomed to be underneath.
I don't know, but when Palin tries to claim her position as vice president by being who she is, it gets hilarious. It's like the little boy playing with dolls. Easily ridiculed.
I'll get back on this when and if I get any clarity.
And yes, isn't it marvellous how I spend so much time doing whatever I can to get away from what I SHOULD be doing?
whoa, i wrote an EXTREMELY elaborate coMment about Palin, feminine vs. masculine and teen pregnancy a couple of days ago. now i come here and see that it was never successfully published!
BITCH!
Oh. Me and Ape agreed just yesterday that you and Lolly seem to refuse to realize the full discussion potential of this blog.
But then, you could be lying. There might never have been a post.
